God's Unbeatable Power

As one who struggles with anxiety, I know first-hand that my own thoughts easily rage out of control when I forget that God is ultimately in control of every crazy situation. God's power is unbeatable and nothing that threatens to undo me can overcome the One who lives in me.

For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.

Colossians 1:16-17

God's sovereignty is all-powerful. There is nothing and no one that is more powerful than He. No sin, slip-up, mistake, misunderstanding, disease, disaster, trial, or tragedy can out-power God.

Satan cannot outwit, outsmart, outthink, or outdistance Him. Even life and death are subjects of God's will, powerless to operate outside His design.

God has power and dominion over the forces of evil and darkness. Eventually, He will conquer them all completely (1 Corinthians 15:25-26). Why not now? Apparently, He has some greater purpose for them to serve first.

One day, my son was playing with some new action figures he had received as a birthday present. He asked me to buy him the villains to go along with the heroes he was holding. When I asked him why, he told me, "I need a bad guy for my good guys to fight."

I chuckled as I realized the wisdom of his request. The villains are necessary; otherwise, there is no action, no drama, and no plot.

Who would Luke Skywalker be without Darth Vader? Would Frodo's life be interesting to us if he had no evil ring to destroy? There is a reason we don't have movies about Luke farming on Tatooine and Frodo hanging out in the Shire.

No weapon formed against you will prevail. Isaiah 54:17

God is a Master Artist and the world's greatest Storyteller. Do you think it's an accident that we humans love drama? I think God made us that way on purpose. God has an incredible epic drama into which He wants to invite us.

We often fail to appreciate the grand story that is unfolding all around us, right here, right now. It's easy to spend more time dwelling on stories that are mere fantasy than thinking about our own life story and how God is working in and through us.

But you belong to God, my dear children. You have already won a victory . . . because the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world.

1 John 4:4 NLT

Humans tend to be impatient. We want a story that can all be neatly and completely wrapped up in a 30-minute show, a 2-hour movie, or a 200-page book.

But it usually takes a lot longer to see how God works everything for good in our own lives (Romans 8:28). We often don't give Him time to bring about the desired outcome or the fulfillment of His promises before we look at the mess we're in and conclude that God is not really for us after all. He must be against us.

God can take whatever plans the enemy has to assault you and turn them around to bless you. Joseph was sold into slavery by his brothers, falsely accused by his boss' wife, and forgotten by his only friend. Yet, in the end, he was able to say to his brothers, "You intended this for evil, but God intended it for good." (Genesis 50:20)

God can do that for you too. It doesn't matter that it was intended to be an attack, God is powerful enough to make the dark skies rain down rose petals upon you instead of the missiles that your enemy originally fired at you.

When you believe God and receive the truth that Jesus is exactly who He claimed to be, that same power that raised Jesus from the dead lives in you. God's power is unbeatable and when He dwells in you, you become victorious!

The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you.
